(CICERO, IL) Morton College students will be enjoying the start of the 2018-2019 academic year with a little less stress about finances. Since it was formed in the 1970’s, the Morton College Foundation (MCF) has given away more than $1 million in student financial assistance. The most recent awards, totaling nearly $95,000.00, were made during the Foundation’s Convocation Ceremony at Morton College on Friday, May 11.
“The impact of our donors’ generosity has a positive effect on these young people as they pursue higher educations and prepare to enter the workforce in our community,” said Richard J. Vavra, President of the MCF. “The donors provide motivation, business opportunities and serve as role models to students in our Community College District 527 area.” These scholarships not only demonstrate that our donors are a force for good, but they also will inspire a generation of students to pay it forward.”
The Foundation and its donors have established 32 distinct scholarships, awards and grants to help students pursue their higher education goals and to cover educational expenses such as tuition, fees and books. To serve diverse student interests, for example, the Foundation makes awards to women in need of assistance with living expenses, athletes, those studying the health sciences, and students who do not qualify for federal financial aid. For some, this student assistance makes higher education a reality.
